Scanstrip, Ticket Strip or Shelf Strip

All plastics are not the same and all shelf strips are definitely not the same. Many retailers make the mistake of selecting Scanstrip / Ticket Strip or Shelf Strip by price alone.

Quality versus price.
Many retailers make the mistake of selecting Scanstrip / Ticket Strip or Shelf Strip by price alone. As with any other item you wish to purchase, the old adage of "You get what you pay for!" certainly applies to scanstrip. All plastics are not the same and all shelf strips are definitely not the same.

If the shelf strip you are considering is very cheap and considerably cheaper than the industry standard, you will be purchasing recycled PVC rather than the better quality Scanstrips. To keep the price down, some manufacturers are using recycled PVC and poor quality adhesives. This means that the stripping is likely to fall off the shelf as soon as the adhesive becomes brittle or heated, the stripping clear front will yellow and could also crack, chip or split in a matter of weeks. Good Scanstrip is made from new PVC and has a quality brand of adhesive on the back.

It is true that all shelf stripping will wear out at some point, but by using a better quality scanstrip with good quality adhesive a shelf life of many months and even up to a couple of years is quite achievable.

For those who are prepared to pay little more, Provista offers a level of quality superior to all other shelf strips currently available. Provista is made from PETG and has a "crystal clear" front with a gloss finish that heightens the colours of the ticket underneath. Provista is also less likely to chip, yellow or split and can offer a more "upmarket" look to the front of shelf.

Correct Handling Techniques
Regardless of the quality of Scanstrip you select, there are correct techniques that will prolong the life of Scanstrip. Many retailers do not apply Scanstrip correctly and do not train their staff in the correct usage of it.  These tips will save huge amounts of time and effort when using Scanstrip, and ultimately will save the retailer money by not having to replace Scanstrip as often.
